K1's at Datchet

The fleet at Datchet has now grown to 16 with fleet racing of 10 to 12 boats.

Contact Hilly King Fleet Captain to find out more

The club originated in early 1975, when the Thames Water Authority called a meeting at Slough Town Hall. This was to discuss use of sporting facilities at their soon to be completed reservoir at Datchet.

A disparate group, several hundred strong, turned up. They represented a wide range of interests from golf to caravans, horse riding to sailing. The sailors were later called to a meeting on May 28th, 1975 at Datchet Mead Hotel, at which volunteers were sought to form a Steering Committee to negotiate a 'Head of Agreement' with the Thames Water Authority and to organize the proposed club.

The sailing water is almost two kilometres long and over a kilometre wide making it large enough for all dinghy classes, small keelboats, foilers and catamarans and great for Windsurfing, Wingfoiling and Stand Up Paddleboarding. There are 300 meters of beach and astroturf to make rigging and launching easier.

Launching

Launching from this slipway is straight forward, but can be slippery in the shallow water.

We recommend tying a  long length of line to the handle of your trolley so it can both be retrieved when you have launched your boat and aid recovery at retrieval time.

Plenty of depth to lower keels.
