UK K1 Lockdown Championships

Your Association has been working hard to get you racing in these difficult times. Most clubs are now open for casual sailing and some have even managed racing.

As you know we have had to postpone many open meetings and cancel the Nationals. We are still hopeful of the remaining open meetings and the possibility to reorganise the inlands later in the year. However, in the meantime, put this very important date in your diary !!!!

We have been working with Sailracer to organise a UK Lockdown Championship.

To explain briefly,

The championships will be held on Sunday 20th September and based at your own club. It will be open to members and non-members. Each entrant will be provided with a tracker to fix to their boats mast at deck level using a Velcro strip. You will then compete in your normal club racing. ( we are hoping that by the end of September racing will be happening in some form). This will be a minimum of 3 races. The results will be transmitted to Simon Lovesey at Sailracer who will calculate average lap times. From this, positions for each race will be calculated and eventually an overall winner.

I will be providing a trophy for this event and I hope we can make this an annual event.

We have negotiated a phenomenal deal with Simon which I hope will encourage all members to compete. The cost of entry and the hire of a tracker will be £20 (MEMBERS £10) +p&p for the tracker. It will be open to any K1 sailor in the whole of the UK.

Before I get inundated with people telling me about the potential flaws with the idea, It is essentially a bit of fun!! There will be rules concerning the races, so that we don’t have some people reaching back and forward, or strapping their tracker to a Contender or foiling Moth! These will be kept to a minimum and posted on the website early next week.

2020 Could be your year!

I would appreciate an idea of the potential interest by either an email (k1geoffking@gmail.com) or message via the website.
